J&J found liable in Oklahoma opioid case and ordered to pay $572M; pledges to appeal

Johnson & Johnson fought hard against Oklahoma’s claims the company played a “kingpin” role in the state’s opioid epidemic, but its lawyers fell short in those efforts after a six-week trial. On Monday, Judge Thad Balkman found J&J guilty of violating a public nuisance law and ordered the company to pay $572 million as part of an opioid abatement plan.
